In an era heavily dominated by digital globalization, TikTok trends, and foreign cartoons, a devastating national disaster is silently brewing in Ghana, the erosion of indigenous identity among the younger generation.

Addressing this modern crisis head on, The Kid Patriot Club-Ghana, an NGO specialized in promoting African culture among children, in collaboration with the Bureau of Ghana Languages, officially launched an event dubbed “Kids Discovering Ghana 2026” at the Bureau of Ghana Languages Conference Room in Kawukudi. The Kids Discovering Ghana event, which will be held in August 2026, is an annual cultural education initiative organised by Kids Patriot Club Ghana, to promote Ghanaian heritage among children. Now in its fifth year, the programme creates an interactive space where children and families experience traditional games, storytelling, drumming, indigenous cuisine, language learning and cultural exchange across generations.

The launch unveiled an enhanced event roadmap, state institutional endorsements, and a radical cultural intervention plan designed to transition Ghana’s languages, values, and heritage into the hearts of the next generation.

Briefing the media at the launch, Founder and President of the Kid Patriot Club-Ghana, Madam Eleanora Portia Baffour-Agyei (popularly known as Mama Posh), challenged stakeholders to confront reality with raw statistics

“Anytime a Ghanaian child is unable to speak her mother tongue, a piece of our history dies. If we think this is just an emotional complaint, let the numbers wake us up. Data shows that only 11.8% of private and international schools in Ghana teach a Ghanaian language regularly, while a staggering 71% of these schools never engage in traditional games with their students.” Madam Baffour-Agyei noted.

She further said the vast majority of Ghana’s future leaders are spending their most formative years in environments where their own identity is treated as an afterthought or completely ignored.

Mama Posh noted that the initiative is a strategic national investment, emphasizing that a child secured in their identity cannot be easily swayed by external forces.

Also speaking at the launch, Executive Director of the Bureau of Ghana Languages, Ebenezer Ahiator Esq., described Kids Discovering Ghana as an extraordinary festival with an urgent cultural recovery intervention.

“Kids Discovering Ghana is not just an event; it is a rescue mission for identity” Mr. Ahiator noted. He said Language is more than mere words, and that it is memory, identity, and a way of seeing the world.

Learning Ghanaian culture, the fun way

He noted that the 2026 edition will move beyond formal classroom learning and instead focus on interactive cultural experiences designed to make learning engaging and memorable for children., offering practical, immersive activities where children will learn the basics of four to five Ghanaian languages through interactive play, regional drumming, dancing, and historic storytelling.

The initiative has drawn unyielding support from the highest echelons of state cultural custody. Delivering warm fraternal greetings on behalf of the sector ministry, Lillian K. Ankamah, representative of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, affirmed the government’s absolute endorsement of the project.

Mama Posh announced several new additions for the 2026 edition. These include a toddler zone designed specifically for younger children, expanded culinary demonstrations featuring Ghanaian meals such as tuo zaafi, fufu and many others. Traditional games including ampe, oware and pilolo, as well as vendor exhibition spaces for locally made goods, and indigenous art.

Games invented by and for kids of the motherland

To assure parents and guardians of the safety of their kids, Mama Posh said the venue has been upgraded and will be held at the Police Social Centre, Accra with security personnel and medical support teams on standby. She said the decision was intended to provide a safe and family friendly environment for participants.
